Activities

NEC equips people from low-income families in Glasgow and its surrounding area, including asylum seeker and refugee communities, with practical skills and vocational training that can lead to employment, volunteering or essential resources and reduce their financial hardship. Beneficiaries are referred by other charities or public bodies, and the aim is to improve independence, support family wellbeing and reduce reliance on public services. It runs wellbeing and exercise classes in a safe, culturally sensitive space and free health education workshops with external professional speakers, to reduce loneliness and isolation and promote healthier lifestyles. It also brings together women from different cultures for capacity building, leadership and wellness workshops, creates opportunities for shared learning and cultural exchange, and signposts people to relevant services.
