What's useful to know about GOV.UK services
What is eVisa and why do I need a UKVI account?
eVisa — digital UK immigration status replacing BRP cards from 1 January 2025.
UKVI account — entry point for your eVisa: view status, generate a share code, update passport. Link via BRP, visa vignette or passport tied to application.
How do I get a share code?
Sign in to UKVI account at gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status, choose 'Prove your status' and the purpose — work, rent, or 'view all details'. Receive a 9-digit code, valid 90 days. Share with employer or landlord — they verify on their side.
Who do I call if my UKVI account is locked?
First — recovery form update-your-details.homeoffice.gov.uk/account-recovery/help (if phone or email lost).
If that fails — UKVI phone 0300 790 6268, option 3, Mon-Fri. Or webchat at ukimmigration-support-webchat.homeoffice.gov.uk/evisa. All free.
Is this an official channel? Not intermediaries? (s.84 disclaimer)
All links lead to gov.uk or official Home Office domains (homeoffice.gov.uk).
StartNewLife is a navigator; we do not provide immigration advice (by Section 84 Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 only an IAA-registered adviser can). This page is a link catalogue, not a substitute for legal advice. For complex cases, consult an IAA-registered adviser or solicitor.
