📅 Reform of post-ARE support — from 2 June 2026
For people who have exhausted all appeals (ARE — Appeal Rights Exhausted), support changes. Section 4 (the current support framework for refused asylum seekers) is being abolished on 2 June 2026 and replaced by Section 95A, which uses a stricter "genuine obstacle" test (medical inability, inability to obtain travel documents despite cooperation, no viable route of return). Section 95A decisions do not carry a statutory right of appeal to the Asylum Support Tribunal.

If you are on Section 95 (support while your claim is being considered), this does not affect you — Section 95 continues as before. The reform only changes things for people whose appeals are fully exhausted.

For details on the new procedure and Further Submissions (Para 353) see our guide. Support applications: Migrant Help 0808 8010 503 (24/7, free).
