The student finance condition

Only if you cannot access student finance

This scheme is for people without access to government student finance — usually asylum seekers and some limited-leave categories. If you have refugee status and can access student finance, this is normally not for you.

How to apply

You need a place first: apply to the programme and wait for an offer. Scholarship applications are only considered from people who already hold one.

Undergraduate: once you hold a conditional or unconditional offer, submit the LSE Undergraduate Scholarship Application Form plus one academic reference (submitted with the form or emailed separately to financial-support@lse.ac.uk)
Undergraduate deadlines: Home fee status 1 June, Overseas fee status 30 April; decisions by end of August (Home) or end of July (Overseas)
Postgraduate taught (Masters): after applying for admission, submit the Graduate Financial Support Application via the Graduate Applicant Portal — one form covers all funding awards, including Section G Personal Statement explaining your background and, if relevant, where you are in the refugee-status process
Postgraduate deadline: 23 April for 2026/27 entry; decisions made through May–July and posted to the Graduate Application Portal

There is no interview — the decision is made on documents. On most routes there are no subject entrance exams either: the main hurdle on the way into university is proving your level of English. The exceptions are medicine, dentistry and creative courses, where tests and portfolios do appear.

About the institution

London School of Economics and Political Science — central London campus near Aldwych/Holborn; the Financial Support Office (financial-support@lse.ac.uk) assesses Home/Overseas fee status and runs Access to Education funding for both undergraduate and postgraduate taught study, alongside a ring-fenced pool for Palestinian students affected by the Gaza/West Bank conflict.

Mostly school leavers. Only 9.2% of students are over 30. If you are over 35, look at other universities on the list — there are more adults there.
