Asylum Seekers Scholarship
How to apply
You need a place first: apply to the programme and wait for an offer. Scholarship applications are only considered from people who already hold one.
- Apply for both a place at Ulster University and for the Scholarship itself — both are required
- Have applied for asylum in, and currently be resident in, Northern Ireland
- Secure a conditional or unconditional offer from Ulster University by the offer deadline (31 May in the 2025–26 cycle)
- Complete the online scholarship application form and submit documentary evidence of immigration and residency status by the scholarship deadline (13 June in the 2025–26 cycle)

There is no interview — the decision is made on documents. On most routes there are no subject entrance exams either: the main hurdle on the way into university is proving your level of English. The exceptions are medicine, dentistry and creative courses, where tests and portfolios do appear.

About the institution
Ulster University has campuses in Belfast, Coleraine, Jordanstown and Magee (Derry~Londonderry), Northern Ireland; the scholarship is restricted to applicants who sought asylum in, and are resident in, Northern Ireland specifically.
There are adults, but they are a minority. 19.6% of students are over 30 and 35% are over 25 — an average picture for a UK university.
