The student finance condition

Open to applicants who do receive student finance

Having no access to student finance is not a condition here: people with recognised refugee status who already receive a student loan can apply.

How to apply

You do not need to wait for an offer — the scholarship application can run alongside admission.

Stage 1: complete the pre-application checklist (eligibility, courses, funding, T&Cs, info session, budget)
Stage 2: apply to the scholarship (9 Dec 2025 10am-17 Feb 2026 5pm), answering short essay questions
Essay questions cover academic merit/potential, interest in your field, and commitment to community impact
Stage 3: apply separately to your chosen Edinburgh postgraduate programme, by 3 Mar 2026 5pm
You need not apply to the course before the scholarship, but it's recommended to do so early or soon after
Stage 4: shortlisted if the panel likes your scholarship application AND you hold a course offer
Stage 5: shortlisted candidates are interviewed; successful candidates are offered the scholarship
Successful applicants sit an English-language test in May 2026 if required for their programme

About the institution

University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Up to 20 scholarships/year for displaced people already living in the UK, for eligible postgraduate programmes that are one year, taught, in-person and on-campus (60-mile commutable radius). Funding tops up whatever UK government student finance the holder is eligible for rather than stopping when status changes to refugee/humanitarian protection; the funding structure used is fixed to the applicant's immigration status as of 31 May of the application year.

Mostly school leavers. Only 10.2% of students are over 30. If you are over 35, look at other universities on the list — there are more adults there.
