Humanitarian Scholarships for Master's Programmes
How to apply
You need a place first: apply to the programme and wait for an offer. Scholarship applications are only considered from people who already hold one.
- Apply online for an eligible one-year taught masters (MA/MSc) course by 31 January, giving full education history — Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine and Allied Health Professional courses are not eligible
- If given a conditional offer, meet the conditions (proof of qualifications and/or English language — Duolingo is accepted) to become unconditional
- Only unconditional offer-holders can apply for the scholarship — submit the online scholarship application once the window opens (Spring, exact dates published the preceding Autumn)
- Provide proof of Refugee Status or Humanitarian Protection under the 1951 UN Refugee Convention held outside the UK (Ukrainians: EU temporary-protection residency card or extension letter; Palestinians: UNRWA registration documentation)
- A panel of staff from across the University assesses applications; decisions by mid-June; assume unsuccessful if not contacted by 1 August

There is no interview — the decision is made on documents. On most routes there are no subject entrance exams either: the main hurdle on the way into university is proving your level of English. The exceptions are medicine, dentistry and creative courses, where tests and portfolios do appear.

About the institution
University of Liverpool — city-centre campus in Liverpool; Widening Participation scholarships team (wpscholarships@liverpool.ac.uk) runs this one-year masters award alongside the separate undergraduate Asylum Seekers Scholarship.
Mostly school leavers. Only 9% of students are over 30. If you are over 35, look at other universities on the list — there are more adults there.
