The student finance condition
Open to applicants who do receive student finance
Having no access to student finance is not a condition here: people with recognised refugee status who already receive a student loan can apply.

How to apply

You do not need to wait for an offer — the scholarship application can run alongside admission.

  1. Submit a course application to St Andrews (no offer needed yet)
  2. Wait up to 3 working days for My Application / MySaint login credentials
  3. Find the Sanctuary Scholarship under Scholarships and Funding in the portal
  4. Submit a personal statement (max 2 pages), evidence of income or Home Office status, and references before the deadline
  5. For PGT, email pgscholarships@st-andrews.ac.uk if you need the £50 application fee waived
  6. Outcome notified by mid-May 2026

There is no interview — the decision is made on documents. On most routes there are no subject entrance exams either: the main hurdle on the way into university is proving your level of English. The exceptions are medicine, dentistry and creative courses, where tests and portfolios do appear.
