The student finance condition

Only if you cannot access student finance

This scheme is for people without access to government student finance — usually asylum seekers and some limited-leave categories. If you have refugee status and can access student finance, this is normally not for you.

How to apply

You need a place first: apply to the programme and wait for an offer. Scholarship applications are only considered from people who already hold one.

Apply for your chosen PGT course via Warwick's standard admissions application; get your 7-digit application ID
Hold a conditional/unconditional offer (or be awaiting a decision) for a course starting Autumn 2026
Submit the separate PGT Sanctuary Scholarship application by 18:00, 12 June 2026
Include a supporting statement (3 set questions) and a reference (max 750 words) from a professional (lecturer, social worker, solicitor)
Application is assessed by a panel; outcomes communicated by 17 July 2026

There is no interview — the decision is made on documents. On most routes there are no subject entrance exams either: the main hurdle on the way into university is proving your level of English. The exceptions are medicine, dentistry and creative courses, where tests and portfolios do appear.

About the institution

The University of Warwick sits on the outskirts of Coventry, a 'City of Sanctuary'; Warwick itself was awarded University of Sanctuary status in 2017. Fee status is assessed by individual student finance companies based on visa/protection-scheme status.

Mostly school leavers. Only 11.5% of students are over 30. If you are over 35, look at other universities on the list — there are more adults there.
