HIV — test, treatment, PrEP

A pill that stops you getting HIV. Free. Just say at the clinic: "I'd like PrEP".
Since October 2025, injectable PrEP (cabotegravir) is also available — one injection every 2 months.
💉 HIV treatment — free for EVERYONE
Treatment is free — even if you have no documents. This is the law.
With treatment, HIV is NOT passed on through sex. People with HIV live normal lives.
⚠️ PEP — emergency protection
If you had unprotected sex — PEP must start within 72 hours. Free at a sexual health clinic or A&E (emergency department).

Contraception and pregnancy

Contraception — free
Pills, IUD (coil), implant, condoms — all free. Through GP or sexual health clinic. No documents needed.
Pregnancy and birth — free for everyone
Maternity care through NHS is free for all women — including asylum seekers and undocumented people.
Even if your asylum claim was refused — maternity care is still free. It is "immediately necessary treatment" — they cannot refuse you.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes. STI tests, treatment, condoms, pills, PrEP — all free. You do not need insurance or documents. This is UK law.

Will the Home Office find out?

No. Since 2018, the NHS does not share health information with the Home Office. Your visit to a clinic is your private business. Your employer will not know either.

Do I need to register with a GP?

No. Sexual health clinics work separately from GPs. Walk in without appointment, without referral, without registration. You can give any name.

Can I get PrEP for free?

Yes. PrEP is free at any sexual health clinic. Just say: "I'd like PrEP". You do not need to explain why. Since October 2025, injectable PrEP (cabotegravir) is also available.
