Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a UKVI account?

Your UKVI account holds your digital immigration status (eVisa). Through it you can prove your right to work, rent, and travel. BRP cards are no longer valid — everything is digital now.

What is a share code?

A 9-digit code you generate in your UKVI account and give to your employer or landlord. They enter it on gov.uk to see your status. The code is valid for 90 days.

My BRP expired — has my status expired too?

No. All BRPs expired on 31.12.2024, but your status is unchanged — it became digital. Use your old BRP to create a UKVI account within 18 months of expiry.

How do I complain about UKVI?

File a formal complaint at gov.uk/complain-uk-visas-immigration. UKVI must respond within 20 working days. If unsatisfied — you can escalate.
