Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. STI tests, treatment, condoms, pills, PrEP — all free. You do not need insurance or documents. This is UK law.
Will the Home Office find out?
No. Since 2018, the NHS does not share health information with the Home Office. Your visit to a clinic is your private business. Your employer will not know either.
Do I need to register with a GP?
No. Sexual health clinics work separately from GPs. Walk in without appointment, without referral, without registration. You can give any name.
Can I get PrEP for free?
Yes. PrEP is free at any sexual health clinic. Just say: "I'd like PrEP". You do not need to explain why. Since October 2025, injectable PrEP (cabotegravir) is also available.
Is pregnancy and birth free?
Yes. Maternity care through NHS is free for all women in the UK — including asylum seekers and undocumented people. It is classified as "immediately necessary treatment" — they cannot refuse you.
What if I was assaulted?
If you are in danger right now — call 999. For help after — Rape Crisis: 0808 500 2222 (24/7). There are special SARC centres. Treatment is free. You can ask for an interpreter.
