From 26 March 2026 asylum seekers waiting more than 12 months can work in all 6.

Teaching — Recognition route 6-12 months FREE for teachers from ~39 approved countries (Ukraine yes, Russia/Belarus NO). If from Russia/Belarus — Assessment Only 6-12 months £2,500-3,250. Nursing — 1-2 years ~£1,200-2,000. Medicine — 1.5-2.5 years ~£3,500 (refugee concessions). Law — 1-2 years + QWE exemption for qualified foreign lawyers ~£3,000-3,500 cheap path.
Which is the most expensive?
Pharmacy — £25-40k for refugees, mainly because of OSPAP £14-19k. RefuAid £10k loan covers ~25-40%. Aston University reserves 5 priority places for refugees — the only dedicated scheme. Without funding it is a serious financial barrier.

From 26 March 2026 — YES if you have been waiting for more than 12 months. You can work in any RQF Level 6+ occupation including medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, teaching, law. This replaced the restrictive Immigration Salary List. It is a major reform.
