What this means
In 2025 Ukrainian citizens lodged 886 asylum claims — the highest of the 12 countries in this overview (28% of all claims) and a record for any year: 299 more than in 2024 (587).
Decisions are strict, however: 16% of initial decisions in 2024 were positive (82 of 513). A refused asylum claim is not the only route — most Ukrainians in the UK hold separate visa-scheme statuses, which this statistic does not cover.
The queue is short — 96 pending cases as of the end of March 2026 (39 waiting over a year). In 2025, 172 people returned voluntarily and 3 were removed. 532 people received UK citizenship — the second-highest of the 12 countries.
